Māori Creative Studio & Agency

Māui Studios is a Māori creative studio and agency in Aotearoa New Zealand. We work with iwi, hapū, cultural institutions, government, Māori businesses and international brands on strategy, brand identity, film, animation, comics, graphic novels, virtual production and immersive experiences. Being a Māori creative studio means kaupapa, mana and tikanga sit at the top of every engagement — story ownership, cultural authority and rights are agreed before creative begins, and toi Māori design elements are applied by artists with the mandate to use them. We hold the pipeline end-to-end: strategy, creative direction, design, production and delivery. Selected work below spans music film with Rob Ruha, brand identity for Mana Tāhuna and Te Ao Matihiko, cultural consultancy on Mad Maggie for Apex Legends, virtual production for Ko Māui Hangarau, and long-form animation and comics for iwi partners.

Frequently asked

About Māori Creative Studio

Is Māui Studios a Māori-owned agency?
Yes — Māori-owned and Māori-led. Kaupapa Māori shapes our operating model, not just our creative output.
What does a Māori creative agency do differently?
We treat kaupapa, mana, tikanga and rights as structural project inputs alongside brief, budget and timeline — so cultural authority and story ownership are locked in before creative starts, and toi Māori is used by mandated artists.
Do you work with international brands?
Yes — with the same kaupapa-first process. Recent examples include cultural consultancy for Apex Legends (EA / Respawn) and international virtual-production work.
How do we start a project with Māui Studios?
Send a project request via the enquiry form or email kiaora@mauistudios.co.nz. First step is always a kōrero about the kaupapa and what mana and rights structure the project needs.
